Emerson is demolishing the building of Ferry Road Fisheries that many regarded as the best fish&chips place in the city. The remaining walls and rubbish first need to be sprayed with water to minimize dust emission before Emerson sits in the digger and starts pulling them down. The work on this site will take about three days. Meanwhile the buildings directly next to the site (New World Woolston and a corner dairy) are functioning at full capacity. Passers-by stop to look at the digger competently knocking down the remaining bits. Emerson has been working in demolition for three and a half years and enjoys working with heavy machinery and helping reshaping the city. “So far I’ve taken down 300 family houses and about 30 or 40 buildings like this on top of that.”
