Vaihoi and Jules are taking a basketful of pipis and tua tuas back to their car. “We are going to boil them with onion and cheese, a tongan recipe. We are from Tonga originally.” The girls collected the pipis in the shallow waters at low tide. Their work attracts a bit of attention, several people stop to photo the heap of shellfish while we talk. “You can recognise the pipi from these hairlike seaweeds here. It took about an hour to collect this many.” The girls are not the only ones collecting seafood though, many people return from the beach with a small bagful for dinner. The girls however are preparing for the celebration party for their sister’s graduation. As usual in their family more than fifty people are expected! “We will have a huge feast, apart from the pipi we will have beef, pork, chicken, seafood, salads… everything that’s bad for you!”
