This end of Clyde Road is a quiet park-like living area with a park ofits own, the Morley Reserve. Among the houses you can hear people doing odd jobs in their garden, a lawn mower’s noise is mingled with the banging of a hammer. Bright and his four-year old daughter are building a fence to provide more privacy. “Let’s say my name is Bright, that’s what I use here. The original Chinese one is too hard to pronounce. I am from the middle parts of China, have been in New Zealand for two years. I am an apprentice carpenter. I rent this house but it need this fence on the front yard. It takes two days to build, I should be ready with it this afternoon.” The little one is eagerly watching and helping daddy but she is also keen playing with me. “She doesn’t speak much English yet and she hasn’t got many friends but she is going to preschool. It’s going to get better.”
