‘I live around the corner and this is my second office.” – David tells me and it looks like the office of anyone’s dreams. The playground has two main areas, one with climbing equipment and swings on areas filled with bark. The other one is a skating area formed of concrete for children with bikes, scooters and skates. The playground also has a gate so children can’t escape. David is not with children though. He is busy working with a motorglider attached to the tubular frame of the swings. “I am a paraglider and motorglider teacher. I have always been interested in flying and I’ve been doing paragliding since 1990. Today we are testing a motorglide. These guys came from Blenheim and I hope we would be able to take off tomorrow or who knows, maybe even today.” The motorglide doesn’t seem to have the right balance to start off with, so David needs some brainstorming about setting it right. Listening to him offers an insight into his knowledge taking into account not only the position of the belts but the weight distribution including the size of the glider, the fullness of the fuel tank, the estimated length of the flight, the landing position, the flexibility of the control options and the total weight of the equipment.
