A bench by the pathway faces the river. People sitting on it can listen to the quiet murmur of the river mingled with the dampened noises of the city enjoying the birds rustling among the leaves of the giant trees of the central park of the city. Comfrey and Guy are having their lunch here taking a break from their work at the Buskers Festival. Comfrey is an actress but she came to be “a crew” for some performances. “I learn a lot from it, seeing actors and actresses from all parts of the world, whose life is this what you see here, performing each and every day of their lives. Amazing. As a crew I am always in the background, taking tickets, making sure that everything goes well during the shows. Yesterday’s power outage was a challenge but everything seemed to go well. This is the first time I have been in Christchurch, even though I heard a lot from it from friends who grew up here. It’s unsettling. We walk every day from the YMCA and it is unsettling to walk by all these empty spaces. When I tried to explain my feelings to a friend who lives here he didn’t understand what I was talking about.”
