Ferrymead Park is located on Bridle Path Road close to the Heathcote River. It features and Edwardian Township with a railway and also offers wooded areas and open lawn playing fields for sports activities like the nationally famous City2Surf race. Today however the only person on the lawn is Brad, who just landed after his spectacular paraglide flight. Launching from the Mount Pleasant Scenic Reserve by the Gondola he flew around the top of Castle Rock then above the streets of Heathcote Valley before he arrived to Ferrymead. Watching his yellow glide as I drove through the area I saw how people stopped on the streets shading their eyes from the sunshine watching Brad’s journey over their houses. “I wasn’t meant to land here but on Heathcote Domain only it was an adventurous flight due to the wind. I have only been doing it for a few months but it’s so exciting, it’s like a new life! It already has a big impact on my life… I’ve already lost 6.5 kg since I started!” I didn’t realize but Brad and I we have already met! Brad was helping David out testing his motor-gliding gear on Lyttelton playground when I talked to him a few weeks ago.
