Pomeroy’s Old Brewery Inn is a spectacular and immaculate brick building that is tastefully decorated inside and out. It is all the more outstanding because it is surrounded with the grey heaps of shingle, orange cones, ruined buildings giving a breathtaking contrast. One can’t stop the flooding questions: How come some things were ruined and some others weren’t? What could have been in place of these empty lots? Where did all the memories go? Shauna works in the Inn arriving today well in time. “I’m Shauna, I am from Ireland, I’m here on a visa. I got this job by just dropping off my CV and now I am here for the next six months or for good? Who knows. The people are great, the city not so much, but I don’t really like big cities anyway.” Shauna’s smile reminds me what a welcoming place this shattered city is and how its inhabitants are all free to be themselves if they find their dreams here or if not.
