Christchurch is one of those few liveable cities that do not swarm from ads and signs distracting drivers’ attention. Those signs that are visible are usually carefully placed, high quality and maintained well. When I spot him, Ross is high above the street placing a large printed canvas to one of the boards on Ferry Road. Looking at him doing his job I realize how complicated it must be doing it well leaving no waves and unstable spots on the canvas and making sure the installation will last weeks or months. “I’ve been in the business for twenty years” – Ross tells me when he is finished casually pressing buttons on his machine until it folds up properly – “There are secrets to any trade but I am OK with heights. I have been paragliding for 25 years. At the beginning I myself set this business up and it’s been growing ever since.” His company is appropriately called the Flying Kiwi Boars Installs.
